Q and A with Crooked Dawn

Crooked Dawn

Wish us luck – it’s time to interview Dave Palmer and Matt Abbott from the band;-)

Q. Band history?

A. Dave P: Formed in 2008 or should I say reformed… Crooked Dawn was a new outing for the 3 of us after gigging the Midlands during the late 90′s early naughties with King Fly. Too many ideas floating around our musical grey matter(s) and itchy fingers bought us back as Crooked Dawn.

After playing a few shows around Birmingham to a healthy response we knew it was a good move to get rolling with the new sound and head into the studio for the 1st CD. Steady gigging around the West Midlands and two more EP releases has shaped us into the three piece outfit you hear today…dangerously overdriven!

Matt: I used to play guitar in this band…*sigh*

Q. Do any of the band members have any weird habits?

A. Dave P: Weird habits? No we’re all very normal…honestly. Don’t let anyone tell you differently. *shifty eyes*

Matt: Smith constantly moans & Palmer constantly worries. Nothing weird, I just wanted people to know what I suffer.

Q. What are your plans for the future?

A. Matt: We are writing a bunch of new songs with the long term aim of recording an album! It will happen….!!

Dave P: The future – working our way towards a full blown album. Lots of material that we would love to record in our catalogue and writing new material as we speak…but refining it into something that we would be 100% happy with is pretty tough.

Q. Any upcoming releases?

A. Dave P: The track ‘poor you’ from our last `EP has recently taken off on quite a few radio stations and has just been included on the BritRockArmy compilation album, ‘Uprising’ which was a nice compliment to us.

Q. What is the best gig you’ve ever played?

A. Matt: I really enjoyed the 1st time we played with MGA & The Whiskey Syndicate – There was a really good atmosphere backstage, onstage & out front in the crowded room – which is all you can really ask for isn’t it?!

Dave P: Well I loved playing with our mates in The Whiskey Syndicate and MGA at the O2 last year – was a blast!

Q. How about the worst?

A. Matt: There’s been plenty over the years that have been bad for one reason or another but you put each one down to experience, forget it & move on.

Dave P: Bad gigs? To be fair I only remember the good ones!

Q. If you could play with any one in the world, alive or dead for one night only, who would it be?

A. Matt: If being alive isn’t relevant then I’ll hook up with Hendrix, Bonzo, Lynott & Mercury…I’d play the tambourine.

Dave P: Blimey. So many people you could dream of playing live with…luckily I’m happy to share the stage with Matt and Dave, but if Jimi, Janis, Bonzo, Bon Scott, Phil Lynott, Gary Moore, Rory Gallagher, Freddie Mercury fancied a guest spot then who am I to turn them away?!
